It takes about 10 minutes for human resource managers to weed out the worst job applications. If the application looks sloppy, it’s gone!End of line for job candidates who used pencils, red or purple pens or spilled coffee on their application.
The next simple step is eye-balling empty spaces left on job applications. If a candidate doesn’t fill in all the blanks, it means one of three things, none of them good: 1. He or she is lazy 2. The candidate has something to hide 3. The candidate doesn’t pay attention to details.
In the third round of cuts, h.r. managers look a little closer. Out go the job applications that show a steady stream of short-term jobs, two months here, five months there. No one wants to hire someone who can’t gut it out for at least a year or more.
By the time all applications have been scanned for these basics, there are usually about 1 in 10 of them left for serious consideration.
